Construction Trends: Green Building and Sustainability in Construction

Neutral-carbon buildings and fully sustainable infrastructures started to gain traction in the early 2010s while the idea of green building and sustainability in construction is still emerging as an interesting and eco-friendly trend. How is sustainability achieved in construction across different projects around the globe?

    Power-Generating Neutral-Carbon Construction

The Pixel Building, opened in Australia in 2010, represented the first of its kind, created to be fully sustainable and eco-friendly. The true definition of green building, these offices in Australia have zero carbon emissions, panels that maximize the daylight per requirement, and creates shade and has its own system for wastewater. Moreover, the building has its own water on-site and can collect and generate power for the necessity of the building by using renewable sources. The roof is designed to collect rainwater.

Plants and Energy Consumption in Construction

Another building in Central Park, Australia, built in 2014, has a status of one of the top green buildings across the globe. The building hosts luxurious penthouses and is completely covered in over 200 different species of Australian plants. The building has a 25% reduction in energy consumption. The building is said to be one of the most impressive green constructions in the world.

Wind Turbines in Construction of Green Buildings

World Trade Center in Bahrain is a green building with three wind turbines mounted on the roof to strategically take advantage of the area’s desert winds. That is how the building can produce its electricity.  Built in 2008, the building of Bahrain’s World Trade Center represented one of the first commercial buildings of this kind. Electricity generated by the wind and through the turbines represents 15% of the building’s electricity. The tower base system of evaporation used in the infrastructure enables cooling.
