How is Work From Home COVID-19 Prevention Measure Affecting Construction in California?

Health officials from the Bay Area decided to shut down a great number of construction projects on Tuesday, March 31st. The projects that were shut down included market-rate housing and construction projects related to office buildings. These projects were previously deemed as essential. In the meantime, as Adam Popescu, a journalist based in Los Angeles, cites, construction in Los Angeles continues.

COVID-19: Construction in LA and Health Measures

As reported, construction workers in LA are gathering in bigger groups outside food trucks and on construction sites. Based on these reports barely any construction workers are keeping the recommended distance and wearing protective garments such as gloves and masks. In Los Angeles, wearing gloves and masks is not a mandatory thing although it is recommended. However, everyone must keep at least 6 feet apart away from others as a central measure for the prevention of spreading COVID-19.

The Department of Building and Safety Visiting Construction Sites in California

The Department of Building and Safety is starting with paying visits to construction sites across California, their job will be to make sure that all protection and prevention measures are taken on construction sites. Construction sites will also need to create a COVID-19 exposure control plan and start practicing protective and preventive measures. In case construction firms are caught not respecting the measures against COVID-19, construction sites under their jurisdiction will be closed.

All Businesses Need to Cooperate on COVID-19 Protection and Prevention Measures

All businesses, essential or non-essential, that are still allowed to operate in California will need to respond positively to adopting protection and prevention measures against COVID-19. Businesses that are not cooperating will be closed for the sake of preventing the spreading of COVID-19. Construction work deemed as essential will otherwise be able to continue if all measures have been taken.
