Remote Work: Contech Companies Finding Solutions Amidst Social Distancing

Construction companies and Contech firms are looking into solutions so different construction projects could keep running despite the Coronavirus crisis. As social distancing and remote work are on the force for many office workers, including those working for construction companies, the Contech sector is still looking for solutions that would make operations on the site more efficient amidst delays as well as safe for on-site workers.

Construction Industry Not Prepared and Unexperienced in Remote Work

Social distancing is on the force so that the spreading of the virus could be stopped and prevented. While office workers from construction companies can work on their part of construction projects from home with the help of the cloud, video chats, and online communication, on-site workers can’t work remotely on their part of the job. That is how many construction sites were closed. As the CEO and co-founder of a project management software company, Monograph, claims, the industry just wasn’t prepared for this case scenario.

Preconstruction and Design Operational Thanks to Technology

The AEC industry leaders shared insights on the first week of remote work in construction companies. The Microdesk business consulting manager, Chris Fercho, claims that cloud environments were put in place to enable remote work for designers and people working on the preconstruction process. Construction workers that operate on-site still don’t have options for remote work. Fercho stated regarding this case scenario, that the crisis the construction industry is facing the present situation can serve as an insight into how the industry can be improved and advanced in the future. As the industry of construction is struggling with delays and social distancing challenges, technology seems to be a safe harbor of innovation. Still, construction projects are affected by the shortage of workforce for on-site activities and still looking into ways to solve this issue and move forward with chasing deadlines in times of crisis.
