Berkeley Group on the Forefront of Off-site Manufacturing
Berkeley Group has faced many challenges during the 45 years of operating in the sector, consequently deciding to enter the sector of off-site manufacturing. With around 4,000 construction projects per year, the company had to find a way to improve performance. The peak capacity of yearly projects should be achieved at the first advanced manufacturing facility being built in Northfleet, Kent. This facility should produce between 20% and 25% of the total output of the Berkeley Group. The company’s ultimate goal is to create off-site product solutions that are mass customizable and are not limiting architectural freedom.
Berkeley Modular in Charge of Manufacturing
Berkeley Modular is a division of Berkley Group and was created in April 2017. The division operates on manufacturing steel-framed based products. The significant part of the manufacturing process is efficient, while Berkeley modular takes around 40 hours to create a fully functional product from basic assembly pieces. The process is automated at a greater level than the process of off-site construction.
Off-site Construction or Off-site Manufacture?
When compared to off-site construction, off-site manufacture can leverage productivity, reduces waste of materials and resources to a greater extent as well as increases the level of efficiency in construction. The UK went through a major industrial revolution 200 years back, while Berkeley Group might easily get on the head of the next revolution with off-site manufacture.
